Smart Phone Free School

At King’s Cross Academy, we are proud to be a smartphone-free school. We believe that our pupils thrive best when their time in school is centred on learning, play, creativity and relationships – free from the distractions and pressures that personal devices can bring.

Our Approach to Being a Smartphone-Free School
Why smartphone-free?
- Focus on learning: Without phones in the classroom, children are fully present and ready to engage in lessons.
- Positive playtimes: Breaks and lunchtimes are opportunities for active play, friendship building and imaginative games.
- Wellbeing first: Removing the pressures of constant connectivity helps to protect mental health and supports healthier social interactions.
- Safeguarding and safety: A smartphone-free approach reduces risks linked to inappropriate content, online bullying or unsafe online behaviour.]
What does this look like in practice?
- Pupils do not bring smartphones into school.
- We provide alternative ways for parents to communicate with the school, ensuring children can always be reached quickly and safely if needed.
- Our staff model healthy digital habits, helping pupils to see school as a space where curiosity, kindness and collaboration come first.
Working together with families
We know that smartphones can play a role at home and in the wider world. That is why we work closely with parents and carers to support a balanced approach to technology, encouraging safe, age-appropriate use outside of school hours.
