Baseline Assessments
We have introduced a baseline assessment in the Nursery and Reception year to help us keep track of and measure our children’s progress.
The assessments are carried out within the first 4 weeks of a child starting in a Nursery or Reception class.
The Academy has adopted the ‘Early Excellence’ Baseline (EExBA) approach . It doesn’t include any predetermined tasks or tests and doesn’t disrupt settling in routines. Instead, as part of their everyday practice, teachers and support staff build their knowledge of each child through their observations, interactions and every day activities.
Teachers and support staff use this professional knowledge to make a series of judgments about each child based on a clear set of assessment criteria. The findings help the Academy track children’s progress and enable us to develop individualized learning plans. We also report our findings to parents.
