Headteacher’s Update 2

The Playground at King's Cross Academy Primary School

Welcome to the second of our updates on the King’s Cross Academy. It has been another busy few months, with continued development to the building, exciting news about future partnerships in King’s Cross, and meetings with even more interested families.

The Academy building, which will also be home to Frank Barnes School for Deaf Children, is really coming together, with the internal walls and structures now in place. Plans for the outdoor play space have now also been agreed and will include a ‘living fence’ and multi-level play areas, to allow for a creative and exciting outdoor environment.

It has and will always be our aim for every child at the Academy to become a highly successful learner and to maximum the potential for each pupil both socially and educationally. To do this we have worked with a number of organisations on-site at the King’s Cross development to seek opportunities to collaborate and maximize resources, creating unique opportunities and learning experiences.

We are exploring and developing partnerships with the likes of Waitrose, who will be on site in late 2015, to run cookery classes with the pupils. Central Saint Martins will also be collaborating with us to help deliver our creative curriculum, allowing us to take advantage of their talent and space.

Other partnerships will include the use of the new Camden Council building, where the pupils will have access to the pool and library facilities. We will also be able to learn about micro-agriculture at the Skip Garden, where there will be a dedicated learning space. Other partnerships will include links with Google, PRS for Music, and the House of Illustration.

Whilst our desire is to create the best possible learning facilities, we also recognise the importance of peer role models, which is why we will be partnering with local schools to ensure the first set of pupils to attend the academy will have peer mentors, ensuring excellent social learning as well as academic.

It continues to be an exciting time for the Academy, and I look forward to updating you further over the coming months with news on the Academy.
