Our Reading Journey

Reading is at the heart of our curriculum. Through the books children encounter during their time at the Academy, they develop fluency and comprehension, broaden their vocabulary, encounter new perspectives and ideas, and discover the enjoyment that comes from reading widely.

Our Reading Journey shows how reading develops across the Academy, bringing together the key texts, authors and reading experiences children encounter as they move through the school.

The journey has been carefully designed to ensure children experience a rich range of literature, including contemporary and classic fiction, poetry, non-fiction and texts representing different voices, cultures and experiences.

Alongside the books studied as part of the curriculum, we encourage children to read widely and independently. Our wider reading offer introduces children to additional high-quality books selected to broaden their reading experiences and encourage them to discover new authors, genres and interests.

Explore your Reading Journey

Children, this part is for you!

Choose your year group and explore your Reading Journey. You will find a collection of brilliant books waiting for you, with different authors, characters, worlds and ideas to discover.

When you finish one of the books on your Reading Journey, come back to the website and complete the short reading quiz for that book. It is your chance to show what you remember, think about what you have read and share your own response to the story.

Your teachers will be able to see the quizzes you complete and celebrate your progress as you make your way through your Reading Journey.  For each book you read successfully, the Year 6 reading team will update your Reading Journey with a completion sticker.
